How do you take care of versioning a code for computing results for a paper/thesis? Do you end up with 50 nested directories with cryptic names like stokes_ML_ca3_nu4.5_stab-hack2a-xxxx', all of them containing its own copy of the source code? Are you able to work concurrently on LaTeX source of your papers with your coauthors or are you emailing tarballs back and forth with messages like "Now I'm working on it, don't touch it!"?

This lecture is intended for both complete newcomers or beginners to Git. At the same time, not only to numerical engineers writing scientific software but to mathematicians using solely LaTeX programming language.
