How to become a real scientist from a struggling PhD student?

Date: 17/04/2024 16:40
Place: lecture hall K1 & Zoom

  • Do you sometimes struggle with your research?
  • Would you like to become a good scientist but you're not sure how?
Join us for an inspiring lecture by a successful mathematician who will share her journey from PhD struggles to scientific success!

The lecture is tailored for PhD and Master's students who may be facing challenges in their research work and want to improve their skills. Carola will offer insights from her own scientific journey during the 30-minute lecture, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session where she will address questions from the audience. Feel free to ask anything!

Carola-Bibiane Schönlieb is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge, and a head of the Cambridge Image Analysis group. Her work is focused on variational methods, PDEs and machine learning for image analysis and image processing. In 2016, she won the Whitehead Prize of the London Mathematical Society "for her spectacular contributions to the mathematics of image analysis".
Carola is currently chairing the SIAM activity group on Imaging Sciences and the Applied Mathematics Committee of the European Mathematical Society.

We encourage students to attend the lecture in person (lecture hall K1 in Karlín at 16:30). Small refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided! We will also stream the talk via Zoomhttps://cesnet.zoom.us/j/92074700049?pwd=bXlzUlhTMDlJbis0RWU5eW5OSE1mdz09
